     This is a discredited species. Work is being done resolve the species. This species appears to be a member of the pyroxene group, is rare at
Mont Saint-Hilaire.


PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Color is usually brown to gray-green.
  • Luster is vitreous.
  • Diaphaneity is transparent to opaque.
  • Crystal System is monoclinic; (?).
  • Crystal Habits include prismatic crystals.
  • Cleavage {110} is distinct and {010} is imperfect.
  • Fracture is uneven to conchoidal.
  • Hardness is 5.5 - 6.5
  • Specific Gravity is approximately ~3.6 g/cm3.
  • Streak is white to grayish-white.
  • Associated Minerals include ??.
  • Distinguishing Features: Crystal habit.
  • Origin: Named in ?? from the Greek hyper, above plus stenos, power.
