Bobtraillite, formerly UK#-69, is a brand new addition for mont Saint-Hilaire. It was IMA's submission # 2001/041. This page has been updated with the publication of the description of bobtraillite in the Canadian Mineralogist, Volume 43, 2005.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Color is gray to brown
Luster is vitreous.
Diaphaneity is transparent.
Crystal System is trigonal, P3c1.
Crystal Habits include short blocky to prismatic crystals to 2 mm
in length, rarely in small rosette (<0.1 mm).
Cleavage is not evident.
Fracture is uneven to conchoidal.
Hardness is 5½.
Specific Gravity is ~ 3.16 g/cm3.
Streak is white.
Associated Minerals include agirine, albite, analcime, burbankite
group mineral, clinoamphibole group mineral, clinopyroxene group
mineral, calcite, donnayite-(Y), microcline, pyrite, pyrrhotite, titanite
and a white mica (muscovite?).
Distinguishing Features: Brittle, non-luminescent.
Origin: Named in 2005 for Robert (Bob) James Traill (b. 1921),
mineralogist, former head of the mineralogy section of the
Geological Survey of Canada (1953-1986), and for his contributions
to mineralogy.
